🌟 Burwood District Cricket Club – Players of the Week! 🌟

A fantastic opening weekend for the Burra boys 💚💛 with standout performances right across our 1s, 2s, 3s, and 4s. Here’s who took the spotlight this week 👇

🏏 1st XI - Peter White Shield
👏 Dhanur B led the attack with a superb 3/35 off 13.4 overs, keeping Deakin CC under constant pressure and setting the tone for the innings.

💪 2nd XI - C Grade
🔥 Patrick S produced a record-breaking knock of 219* - a dominant mix of power and control (19 fours & 13 sixes) as BDCC piled on a massive 460 runs.

💥 3rd XI - E Grade
🏹 Yash J showed great composure and clean hitting with an unbeaten 52* (3 fours, 6 sixes) against Forest Hill CC, holding the innings together in a tight contest.

⚡ 4th XI - F Grade
🎯 Anupam B was brilliant with the ball, taking 3/22 off 6 overs, striking at key moments to help Burra secure a strong win.

Deakin CC were bowled out for 117. BDCC responded strongly and finished Day 1 on 2/73, setting up an exciting Day 2.

🏏 2s (Day 1/2)
BDCC piled on a massive 6/460 in 70 overs, putting Forest Hill under huge pressure going into next week. A dominant batting effort from the home side.

🏏 3s (One Dayer)
In a close contest, BDCC were bowled out for 151 in reply to Forest Hill’s 160. Just short in what could have gone either way.

🏏 4s (One Dayer)
A fantastic team win! BDCC put up 199 before dismissing Forest Hill for 129, sealing the victory in style.

Burwood District CC offer our sincere condolences to the Pitt family regarding the news of the passing of their beloved mother, Robin.

The Pitt family hold a special place in the history of BDCC. They grew up at the club, with the three sons, Jason, Andrew & Gareth all having played. Jason went on to become a much loved 1st XI captain.

Our thoughts are with the entire Pitt family at this incredibly difficult time ❤️

Over the weekend, we farewelled one of our Burra superstars who will be heading back to India after having spent the last 6 years here in Australia! Abhi joined the club in 2020, after coming on board as a volunteer, to gain further experience as part of his degree in Sports Management.

It was indeed a true blessing for the club, having gained Abhishek's amazing work ethic, calm and composed character, and 24/7 beaming smile! Abs served as the club secretary across 3 seasons (2021-2024) and more recently as our Junior Cricket Coordinator. He played 61 games for the club, having taken 51 wickets as a handy spinner, and more recently as a medium pacer convert!

Around the club, Abhi lived all the true values of being a Burra, always being a true team player & continually putting the club and his fellow players first. We will miss him dearly, however do wish him all the best for his return to India, where I'm sure his parents are eagerly looking forward to having their boy back in their hometown!

Tonight, the Burra celebrated the end of season 2024/25 with an amazing afternoon of lawn bowls and awards at our annual presentation afternoon! 🏆

Congratulations to all our award winners across the Junior Blasts program and all our senior cricket teams! It was indeed special to soak in the sunshine and spend time with the Burra family before the off-season break!

Last night, a few members of the Burra represented Burwood District at the BHRDCA Presentation night for 2024/25! A huge congratulations to our 2nd XI for their premiership win, and Jake Evans, Sam Dhabi and Krishnan Venkatachalam for taking home individual accolades in their respective grades! 🏏

BDCC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Final player of the week for the season goes to @patsowersby for his match winning knock in the 2nd XIs E-grade grandfinal against St Davids CC. A 105* (133) included seven 4s, seven 6s with a massive six to bring up his century. The innings tilted the final in favour of the Burras and took a massive chunk of runs off the 276 the team were chasing.

FAREWELL, PARAG

This week we say farwell to one of the best blokes at Hartwell, @@parag_jagtap_ as he bids adieu to us with his move back home to India. A true burra in spirit, always smiling, always helpful, always at training, always there for the green and gold. He will be missed at Hartwell from next season. Led flag winning seasons in the last two years, leaves big shoes to fill as a Burra Captain!

Following his outstanding 105* in yesterday's Grand Final, @patsowersby has surpassed 7000 career runs for Burwood District. Having started the season with 6442, Patty finished season 24/25 with another 598 runs for the club.

Pat now moves to 2nd in leading all time run scorers for the Burra, behind life member Terry Howard, who finished his playing career with 8407 runs.

Congratulations to our mighty 2's for winning the BHRDCA E Grade Grand Final! Our star batsmen @patsowersby was an absolute beast finishing with 105*, and well supported by Abhishek Dalvi with 59*.

That takes the Burra to #66 premiership flags! 🏆 Go the Burra! 🏏

GRANDFINAL DAY 2

A beautiful day of cricket awaits us our Burra 2nd XIs resume their grandfinal in the BHRDCA's E-grade against St. Davids CC with us batting to score another 269 runs in our first innings. A gutsy bowling effort by the Burra boys in the 37 degrees heat last week. A week of rain and cool weather has brought freshness into the boys who are raring to go for it. If you can, then come down to support the Burras.

The Burra 2’s are raring to go and win our 66th flag this weekend against @stdavidscc at Donvale Reserve in the E Grade Grand Final. Game starts at 1 pm tomorrow, Saturday 15 March and if weather permits, day 2 will be on Sunday, 16 March. Information, score updates and highlights will be regularly posted here. But if you can, please make it to the games in a Burra top and show the saints players a sea of green at their home ground!

BDCC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

Congratulations to Captain @parag_jagtap_ for a classy innings taking the 2s to a massive 260 in their semifinal from 105/5 when he walked in to bat.

Hadley (@hadleydonut46 ) has been named as the Burra's player of the game for the 3rds semifinal. An all-round performance from Hads had the team getting very close to making the grand final.

BDCC WEEKEND RESULTS | SEMIFINALS

Great weekend for the Burra!

Though a heartbreaking loss for the 3rds against Deakin CC in their F grade semifinal game ends their campaign, it was a season to remember and with an end like that, the team is raring to go again come October!

The 2s juggernaut rolls on to the GRAND FINAL! - Clinical performance from the team to win all round against Blackburn North CC. A solid team effort sees the team playing for Burra's 66th flag against St. Davids next weekend. Details to follow during the week.

Our 3rd XI season comes to a devastating end following a nail-biting loss in their Semi Final clash against @deakincricketclub. A battle for the ages with the Burra fighting till the end, falling 5 runs short chasing 130!

A great season nevertheless led magnificently by captain @jcevans23 and Vice Captain @onamalai 🌟
